Portrait session: finally a photo that fits

Your LinkedIn photo is five years old. Or it is a crop from a wedding, with your brother in law’s shoulder still just in the frame. You know it could be better, but getting your photo taken is not exactly at the top of your list.

I get that. That is why I keep a portrait session short, clear and relaxed. In 1 to 1.5 hours we make 12 photos in my studio in Wijchen that you can use anywhere: on your website, on LinkedIn, with your articles and on social media.

How it works

  1. The mood board

Before the session we make a mood board together. Do you want to look casual or more professional? Which colours suit your website? What will you wear? That way we both know what we are going to make, and on the day itself there are no surprises.

  2. The session

You do not have to be able to do anything. I tell you where to stand, what to do with your hands and where to look. We work at a brisk pace, without rushing. Most people have forgotten within ten minutes that they were dreading it.

  3. The photos

Right after the session we choose the images together. I edit them and you get 12 photos that are ready to use.

Many people think a good photo takes hours. It does not have to. On the street I learned to look fast and decide fast. I bring that into the studio. With a good mood board and clear directions we have a series of photos within an hour and a half that you can really use.

Do you actually find getting your photo taken awful? You are not alone. I wrote an article about it: why almost everyone hates having their photo taken.

One session, photos for everywhere

A new profile photo is often the reason. But with 12 photos you have more:

  • A LinkedIn profile photo, and images for your LinkedIn articles
  • Photos for your about page, your contact page and other pages on your website
  • Images for your newsletter and social media
  • A photo for when you speak somewhere or get interviewed

A portrait session, or more time for yourself?

A portrait session is practical: you want a good, usable photo. We take 1 to 1.5 hours for that in my studio in Wijchen. Want more time for yourself? Then take a look at the longer photo shoot. We talk first, and you get fifteen black and white portraits that are mostly about you. That one costs € 495.

Want a whole team in front of the camera? Look at headshots for companies. You can see more of my work on the page about portrait photography.

Frequently asked questions

What does a portrait session cost?

€ 365 incl. VAT, with a mood board beforehand, a session of 1 to 1.5 hours and 12 edited photos.

I never look good in photos. Is it still worth it?

Especially then. Almost everyone who comes to me says that. With good directions and a little time to get used to it, it almost always goes well.

Where does the session take place?

In my studio at Bijsterhuizen 2414 in Wijchen, close to Nijmegen.

What should I wear?

We talk about that when we make the mood board. Feel free to bring two or three outfits, so we can switch.

May I use the photos for business?

Yes. The photos are meant for your own website, LinkedIn and social media.

Can I get extra photos?

Yes, that is possible by arrangement.

Five tips for a good photo

  1. Choose: casual or professional

This is the most important choice, and you make it before the session. A photo in a blazer for a law firm calls for something different than a photo in a sweater for your own coaching practice. Look at your clients: how do you want them to see you? If you are unsure, we will work it out together with the mood board.

  2. Go to bed on time

It sounds like something your mother would say, but you really can see it. A good night’s sleep does more for your photo than any editing. Drink enough water and skip that extra drink the evening before.

  3. Practise in front of the mirror

Not to learn a trick, but to know how your face feels when you smile with your eyes. Also try turning your head a little. If you know which side you like best, you will be relaxed in front of the camera sooner.

  4. Wear something you feel good in

Plain colours work better than busy prints. Choose clothes that fit well and are ironed. And go to the hairdresser a week beforehand rather than the day before.

  5. Plan nothing straight afterwards

Whoever has another appointment at three o’clock looks at the clock at half past two. You can see that in the photo. Give yourself some room, and you will have it in your face too.
