A talk on street photography

I am happy to take you through my wanderings as a street photographer in an extensive presentation full of photos. We look at pictures, of course, but I also give you plenty of practical tips.

1. Street photography, a presentation
   Through examples I take you through the history of street photography and give you plenty of tips for getting started. Given at Museum Hilversum and at various photo clubs, including Fotocafe West Brabant.

2. Ten street photography tips
   Using ten concrete tips and plenty of examples, you learn to feel more comfortable on the street and come away wanting to get out there as soon as possible. Given at various photo clubs and at CameraNu.

3. Conceptual street photography
   An enthusiastic talk on how to move from a single image to a series on the street, under the heading of conceptual photography: hit the street with an idea. Given at CameraNu, season 2025/2026, and still very much current.

4. From street to portrait
   About meeting people one-sidedly on the street, feeling a strong need to have real conversations with my (spontaneous or otherwise) subjects, and how PAUSE grew out of that. Given at CameraNu, season 2026/2027.

5. Great, another photographer
   A motivating talk about putting your head above the parapet and the obstacles a starting photographer runs into. Given as a guest lecture at ROC Koning Willem I in ’s-Hertogenbosch, among others.

6. An extensive introduction to photography
   Using examples I take you into the world of the exposure triangle, depth of field and editing. Given to the participants of YourNijmegen.nl, among others.

7. A talk made to measure
   From my thousands of photos and my experience at home and abroad I am glad to put together a talk made to measure for your photo club or company, at no extra cost, for instance on a specific side of street photography.

Count on a presentation of about ninety minutes, and experience shows that the next half hour fills up with questions (during and afterwards) and talking things over. I am very happy to answer them. My passion for street photography lets me take you into that world, and I am certain a few members will pick up their camera the next day and head out.

A subsidy is often available through the regional Fotobond for talks by nationally known photographers, as for instance at Fotobond Gelderland-Zuid.

A street photography workshop for photo clubs and companies

For your photo club or company I am glad to offer a good discount on my street photography workshops. There is nothing better than heading out as a group in the oldest city in the Netherlands: Nijmegen. I show you the photogenic corners in and around the centre and take you to my favourite spots for street photography. Would you rather head out in your own city? No problem either. Then I put together a workshop made to measure. I have given one in Montfoort (two shopping streets) and in Amsterdam Zuid. There is something to see everywhere.

Certainly when we head out as a group or in small groups, you learn an enormous amount. I send you out with enjoyable assignments to look at the city afresh. The assignment cards you get from me you take home to your own city, of course, to do the workshop again with the club. And if you want to dig deeper into street photography, you can do that on the sofa with my book Straatfotobijbel (in Dutch); a copy for everyone. That way you take a lasting memory along on your own street photography journey.
