Once you have been doing street photography for a while, there comes a point where the technical question is no longer the interesting one. Then it becomes: what makes my photos mine? What is my eye, my style, my way of looking?
Streetwise is about that question. About colour theory and composition as deliberate choices. About light as a narrative element. About the ethical choices you make as a street photographer and have to be able to carry. About series, projects, and finding a voice of your own.
The emails are longer, the assignments harder, the theory deeper. Each email also contains a recommended video that takes the subject further.

About Michiel
I am Michiel Heijmans. A portrait photographer, a street photographer, the author of three photography books and, for more than a hundred episodes, co-host of the podcast 30 Minuten Sluitertijd.
I teach street photography workshops in London, Paris, Antwerp and Utrecht. A maximum of five people at a time, because personal attention is the only way you really move forward. That philosophy runs through these courses too.
I own straatfotografie.nl, the community for street photographers in the Netherlands and Belgium, and together with lawyer Charlotte Meindersma I wrote De Wet van de Straat (in Dutch) about the legal side of street photography.

Is this suitable for beginners?
Do I have to be available at fixed times?
No. The courses run automatically. You decide when you read the emails and head out. Is there a gap of a while? No problem. The course waits for you.
Can I do both courses at the same time?
I would advise against it. Streetsessions is the foundation, Streetwise is the depth. They work best one after the other.
I do not shoot street photography, is this still for me?
The way of looking you learn in these courses is not exclusive to street photography. Everything you learn about light, composition, meaning and your own eye applies to any branch of photography. But the assignments and the stories are aimed at the street.
When do I start?
