You know how to make a good photograph. But you sometimes wonder whether it is really your photograph. Streetwise is an email course about finding a way of seeing that is your own. Not what is good, but what is yours.

What is Streetwise?
Streetwise follows on from Streetsessions. But you do not have to have done Streetsessions to join. You do need some photographic mileage, not necessarily technical, but you are someone who has been looking for a while and notices that something is missing. That feeling that your photographs are good, but not really yours yet.
That is exactly what Streetwise is about.
Over six months you get thirteen substantial emails. Longer than you are used to from a newsletter, with several sections, more theory, more depth. But always in the same rhythm: a story, a thought, an invitation to go out on the street. Every email also includes a recommended video that takes the subject further.
Halfway through I ask you how it is going. At the end you send me five photographs. I go through them and give you personal feedback.

Streetsessions teaches you to look better. Streetwise teaches you to recognise what you see.
The assignments are heavier. The theory goes deeper. The emails are longer. And the question at the centre is not how do I make a good photograph, but what makes my photographs mine.
Have you done Streetsessions? Then Streetwise is the logical next step. Did you start here straight away? Then it is demanding, but perfectly doable if you already have some photographic experience.

I am Michiel Heijmans. Portrait photographer, street photographer, author of three photography books and, for more than a hundred episodes now, co-host of the podcast 30 Minuten Sluitertijd.
I run street photography workshops in London, Paris, Antwerp and Utrecht. Five people at most, because any more and you lose the personal contact. That same thinking sits inside Streetwise.

Do I have to have done Streetsessions?
Do I have to be available at fixed times?
No. The course runs automatically. You decide when you read the emails and go out on the street.
What if I want to do a workshop as well?
Halfway through the course you get an email about my workshops. Plenty of Streetwise participants take the step to a live day afterwards. That is no coincidence.
When do I start?

How does the feedback round work?
At the end of the course you send me five photographs. I send you a personal response.
