What are Polaroid photos?

Polaroids—also known as digital Polaroids or digitals —are simple, natural photos of models, intended for use by modeling agencies. They show you as you are: without makeup or editing, in natural light or soft studio lighting. These are the images that agencies use to assess whether you are a good fit for their model roster.

The power of a good Polaroid lies in its simplicity. No glamour, no heavy styling—but good lighting, a relaxed atmosphere, and sharp, fresh images. And that is precisely why modeling agencies value reliable, professional Polaroids.

Why choose a professional Polaroid shoot?

You may be thinking, "Why not just have my brother or friend take some photos?" You could. But agencies can immediately spot the difference. Poor lighting, the wrong lens, or an awkward pose could mean you miss out on an interview. And that would be a shame!

How does a shoot like that work?

Just come as you are: natural, fresh, without makeup. We take the time to create a relaxed atmosphere. No rush, but focused. From start to finish, we'll be done in just over an hour.

We take portraits from the front, from the side, and in a three-quarter pose. With a neutral facial expression, and sometimes a small smile. I also photograph you from head to toe, so that agencies can get a good idea of your posture and appearance. Everything is done in consultation with you, and I let you look at the photos as we go along. This is good for you and for the end result.

We take the Polaroid photos in my studio in Nijmegen, on the creative NYMA site, or, if you prefer, at another location with natural daylight.

What should you wear for a Polaroid shoot?

Less is more. Choose clothing that shows off your silhouette:
Skinny or slim fit jeans, a white (or black) top, camisole, or T-shirt. No striking prints or bright colors. No jewelry, thick socks, or heavy makeup either. Simple, comfortable, and natural works best.

If the agency explicitly requests it, you should also bring a black bikini or basic underwear set (without prints or lace).

How many Polaroids do you get?

On average, you will receive 10 to 15 usable Polaroid photos, suitable for sending directly to agencies or adding to your portfolio. Consider:

• Frontal portrait (straight into the camera)

• Side view

• ¾ profile

• Full-body photo from the front, side, and back (standing upright)

• Possible close-up or detail (eyes, hands, hair)
