A successful away day? Make room for relaxation.
You know how it goes. Hours locked in a stuffy room with a fantastic view of bare walls, and a window onto a world you cannot reach right now. You are on an away day. Whether you are brainstorming with your team, your board of directors, or your executive team, you are ready to clear your head. You need a distraction, something that creates space for new ideas. You need to recharge.
Relaxation during hours of meetings
As a former director of several companies, I know exactly how you feel. And I also know that switching off completely from the meeting or brainstorm is not really going to happen. That is why my workshops leave plenty of room to have a quick word with that one colleague or business partner. Of course. But I will give you a photography assignment. Your phone is all you need.
I encourage you to look for different angles in your photos, much as you may have been doing all day in that meeting room. Together we make sure your relaxing walk does not turn into an extension of the brainstorm. Time to clear your head.
My street photography workshops are also an excellent choice as part of a company outing!
Why a street photography workshop on your away day?
Photography lets you express your own perspective, emotions and stories in images. It can help you discover new ideas, techniques and styles and experiment with them. It can inspire you to think outside the box and occasionally push your boundaries. Photography encourages more creative thinking, and you will feel the benefit of that for the rest of the day.
And it may seem obvious, but do not underestimate the value of fresh air. Fresh air is essential during a full day of meetings: it supports your health, concentration, inspiration and creativity. It supplies your body and mind with oxygen, gives you energy, clears away waste products and stimulates your brain. Combined with natural daylight, fresh air improves your mood, reduces stress, boosts creativity and strengthens your memory. Need I say more? Come outside!
How long does the workshop last?
Depending on how much time you have, I can tailor the workshop to fit. Anywhere from ninety minutes to three hours. The longer option is perfect for a multi-day retreat, of course. We work through a number of concrete assignments that change the way you look at things. I can adjust the number of assignments to suit the time available, so the workshop is flexible by design. If you prefer, we can ease the transition from brainstorm to workshop with a fifteen to twenty minute introduction to street photography as an art form. It is sure to raise questions, which I am happy to answer once we head outside.
Do we need a camera?
That is probably the most frequently asked question. The answer: yes, but the one on your phone is perfectly fine. If you do own a camera, by all means bring it along, even if you have questions about it or always shoot on automatic (auto or P mode). There is a little more you can do with a dedicated camera. But my workshops are about seeing everyday things differently, and for that every camera works. In practice, out of ten people there are usually one or two who shoot with a camera; the rest simply use their phone. Just make sure your battery is charged, or bring a power bank!
Workshop costs
My workshops cost € 295 per person. That includes a copy of my book Straatfotobijbel, so you can read through everything at your leisure after the workshop. If you catch the photography bug and want to explore more, you will have access to over 100 online courses from Photofacts (including my online street photography course), free of charge for a full month. For groups of more than ten people, I am happy to put together a custom quote.
A street photography workshop sounds like a great idea for our next away day!
