Prague invites you to capture the beauty and history of Europe at a glance. From the old town with its cobbled lanes and imposing castles to the modern feel along the banks of the Vltava, there is a story waiting to be caught everywhere. Here you find a singular mix of light and shadow, and a fascinating interplay between old architecture and lively city energy.
My conceptual street photography workshop in Prague gives you the chance to look beyond the classic tourist images. You learn to capture unique moments and subtle human interactions, the kind of pictures only a trained eye can see. With me as your guide you gain useful insight into composition, timing and atmosphere, and you learn how to tell the story of Prague in your photographs.

After Utrecht and Amsterdam this was my third workshop with Michiel, this time in Nijmegen, the city where I grew up. Photography in Prague: a historic experience
Do you love street photography and are you looking for a new challenge? Do you want to discover a city that will surprise and inspire you? Then my street photography workshop in Prague is for you.
Prague is a city where history and modern charm flow into each other seamlessly. Here you meet a unique combination of cultures, architectural styles and stories, all ready to be captured. The city keeps prompting you to look further, to find new details and to catch particular moments. Prague keeps surprising you, whether you are wandering the narrow lanes or capturing the bustle of the squares. In this absorbing street photography workshop we discover the soul of Prague together and give it a place of its own in your images.
I have a deep love of street photography and a great deal of pleasure in sharing that knowledge and energy, which people are kind enough to tell me. During this workshop I take you along the most interesting and photogenic places in the city. Along the way you get honest feedback and practical direction, with one aim: making better photographs and developing your own style more and more clearly.
Who is this workshop for?
The workshop lasts two days, from ten to three. That is deliberately compact, so the focus stays high and you do not get lost in endless wandering. Your level does not matter. Whether you are just starting out or have been photographing for years, everyone takes something different from it. All you need is a camera, any camera. A mirrorless camera, a DSLR, a compact or even your phone. As long as you look.
We are going to work on seeing. On composition. On how light and shadow together make an image. On colour, movement and perspective. And on people. How to photograph somebody without disturbing them, without friction, with respect and attention. That is perhaps the most exciting and the most rewarding part.
You do not learn by listening, you learn by doing. By watching how I work, how others work, and above all by experiencing it yourself on the street. Through the day you get assignments that pull you out of your usual pattern. They force you to look more slowly, to choose more deliberately and to be genuinely present in the city. Those assignments sometimes feel uncomfortable or demanding, but they work. Almost everyone notices by the end that they are looking differently from when they started. And you see that in their photographs.
Prague? Easy to reach!
For anyone travelling from the Netherlands: Prague is genuinely easy to reach by train. I travel first class for 70 euro one way myself. Second class starts at around 55 euro. Cheap, and sustainable. Hotel prices vary, but Prague is not necessarily an expensive city. You will find a perfectly good hotel at a reasonable price. Public transport is well organised, with excellent trams.

2 days · 10.00 to 15.00, on Friday and Saturday
Day one is about the old town and the new town. We walk from the Palac Zofin on the little island in the Vltava to the Josefov quarter. We pass the old town square, Staromestske namesti, with its mechanical clock, and carry on by way of Václavské námesti and the Dancing House. Day two is busy in places and quiet in others, as we cross the Charles Bridge and walk through Mala Strana up to Prague Castle (Prazsky hrad). We lose ourselves in the alleys around Novy Svet and find our way back to the centre of Prague.

Photo review
After the workshop you can email me up to eight photographs you took during the two days. I will give you personal feedback on them, and tell you what I would try next.
We start both days at ten and finish around three, so you will still have time to explore Prague yourself! Most of the places we visit are within walking distance, but that does mean you will need sturdy shoes.
What this workshop costs
This two-day workshop costs just € 695. That includes my book De Straatfotobijbel 🇳🇱!

Halfway through the workshop we stop for lunch (at your own expense). Prague has plenty of lovely little spots for lunch – we will see what is nearby when we get hungry!

I am Michiel Heijmans, a professional photographer. I run street photography workshops at home and abroad.
