A studio full of light, ideas, and conversation
Learn to observe, intuit, and build with light. My studio at Wijchen is set up for working, but above all for discovering. We’ll start with a conversation about what you want to learn or where you’re getting stuck. Then we’ll build the lighting setup step by step—sometimes with a single lamp, sometimes with several. We’ll use whatever’s available: reflections, walls, daylight, maybe a backdrop roll or a piece of foil that refracts the light just a little differently.
We’ll be working with a model, but every now and then I’ll also have you step in front of the lens yourself. Not to pose, but to get a feel for how light works—and what it’s like to be in front of the camera. I think that’s incredibly important for establishing the right connection. We’ll discuss everything we do out loud, so you can learn from the process.

Technique and Feeling
The one-on-one workshop is designed for amateur photographers and professionals who want to deepen their knowledge of portrait photography. Whether you’re just getting started with flash photography or already have experience in the studio, we’ll build on your existing knowledge and style.
We’ll discuss settings, light modifiers, reflectors, and the use of continuous light or flash. But we’ll also talk about posture, connection, and calmness—about what makes a good portrait, and why a photo moves us.
This workshop isn't a lesson, but a conversation about photography, about seeing, and about making choices.
What to Expect
We’ll work together for four hours. During that time, we’ll set up one or more shots, discuss the images as we go, and help you truly understand lighting. We’ll spend half the time working with a model, and the other half observing, analyzing, and trying new things.
The focus is on insight. How do you take control? How do you play with light? How do you trust your own eye? Afterward, you’ll go home with images, but above all with ideas—new ways of seeing. And likely, a renewed curiosity about portrait photography.
