Learn to observe. Discover stories. And take photographs together in a new city.
A new city opens up everything. Your rhythm changes, you see things differently, you feel more space to play with images. That is precisely what makes a photography workshop abroad so valuable. You are completely away from home for a while and immerse yourself in (street) photography, inspiration, light, rhythm and creativity for two days.
These trips are for people who enjoy taking photographs together. No anonymous large groups where someone always has the loudest voice and demands the most attention, but small, friendly teams who get to know each other as they walk through the city. We talk a lot, look a lot and take even more photographs. Everything at a relaxed pace. No stress. Just depth.
And along the way, you notice how quickly you are developing. How you are becoming calmer. How your eye is becoming sharper. How you are beginning to recognise your own style. Sometimes even in a single shot.
These two-day trips combine practical experience, enjoyment and clear assignments that help you see things differently. The approach is like mine. Conceptual Street Photography Workshop, but with the added bonus of a foreign city that magnifies everything: light, colour, silence, sound, people. Two days full of input that will stay with you long after you return home.

Why photography abroad works so well
In an unfamiliar city, you immediately step out of your habits, out of your daily routine. You notice things more quickly that you would normally miss. You walk differently. You react differently. And because you have two days, you experiment more and feel less pressure.
You are not focused on performance or competition, but on discovery. And that provides room for growth.
Many participants say the same thing afterwards: “I now view my favourite city differently. I suddenly notice new things.”
That change often begins within the first hour. As soon as you understand how light works in a different city. Or how you pick up on a story that you would normally pass by. It's the magic of being away from your routine.

The cities
Photography workshop in Paris
Paris is elegant, raw, chaotic and peaceful all at once. The perfect city to learn to see. We work a lot in black and white, we search for light in the city of light, we wander through small streets and try to capture that typical Parisian mix of romance and reality.
You will be given assignments that help you build stories, think in scenes and follow the light. All in the style of street photography with a touch of conceptual work, as you know from my Conceptual Street Photography Workshop.

Photography workshop in London
London is alive. Always. The pace is faster, the contrasts are stronger and the streets are full of unexpected moments. That's precisely why London is a great place to train your photographic instincts. You learn to see in chaos, you learn to find peace in busy situations and you discover how light works differently in a city where changing weather is part of the game.
We work a lot with rhythm, distance and timing. You will be given assignments that force you to choose frames and read stories in motion.

Photography workshop in Prague
Prague is a photographer's dream. Dark alleys, warm light, old buildings, tranquillity, echoes of history. Here we work a lot on graphic composition, rhythm in the street scene, finding light in shady spots and patience.
Prague invites you to linger. To stroll slowly. To take photographs that are gentle, yet mysterious.

Photography workshop in Hamburg
Hamburg is different. Rugged. Industrial. Water, metal, bridges, lines, ships, colourful graffiti, quiet docks. The city is full of contrasts, making it the perfect place for a photographic quest for both structure and emotion.
We work along the water, in modern neighbourhoods and on quiet squares. This is a workshop where you learn to seek simplicity in hustle and bustle and character in lines.

Photography workshop in Zurich
Zurich has a unique atmosphere. Peaceful, clean, bright light, mountains in the distance, a mix of modern and classic. It is a city that invites you to take more subtle photographs. To play with light reflections in the water, with colour in an urban environment and with scenes that are small but meaningful.
We focus a lot on timing, looking at mini-stories and building series. The assignments are like those of the Conceptual Street Photography Workshop, but with Zurich as the backdrop.

What does a two-day course look like?
We usually start around ten o'clock. Plenty of time to arrive at your leisure.
We walk a lot, but not in a hurry. We stop at moments that are good for talking, looking around or having a drink. On the first day, we mainly work on basics, rhythm and light. On the second day, we delve deeper into stories, series and personal style.
Every day ends around three o'clock, although we often continue longer. Sometimes because the light is too beautiful, sometimes because conversations arise that you don't want to end.
Real experiences from participants
All quotes below come directly from my Google Reviews.
From the very first moment, Michiel thought along about a new style for our portrait photos. The recurring question "What do you want to radiate as a company?" eventually translated into beautiful photos with a warm and homely atmosphere. Exactly what we were looking for! We are very happy with the end result.
Michiel thinks with you, even about questions not directly related to street photography. He tries to make you enthusiastic about his profession (which certainly succeeded with me).
As a beginning photographer, this workshop, combined with reading his book, gave me a huge kickstart. I learnt a lot and it was a relaxed and fun experience. Definitely recommended!
It occurred to me last minute that I wanted photos of my presentation at the NCBOR congress in Nijmegen. I found Michiel via via. He has his office in Nijmegen and is a good event photographer. No word was lied about that.
Besides taking beautiful photos, Michiel can also think along in terms of possibilities. What do you want to radiate and what type of photos match this!
Also, Michiel is a pleasant person which makes the cooperation even better.
I am happy with all the photos and use them regularly for my branding. They are a reflection of who I am and what I love doing: motivating and supporting people in using data to manage public space more efficiently.
